Johari N. Townes represents businesses in a wide range of complex litigation matters in state and federal court. Her experience includes consumer class actions, commercial real estate litigation, breach of contract actions, fraud actions, copyright and trademark infringement actions, and defamation actions.

Among the clients Johari has represented are banks, traditional and online retailers, high tech companies, institutions of higher education, and media companies.

Johari successfully defended a bank in a class action lawsuit brought under the Class Action Fairness Act, resulting in a published Ninth Circuit opinion. She also has extensive experience litigating under consumer protection laws, including the Fair Credit Reporting Act, California Consumer Credit Reporting Agencies Act, Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Rosenthal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, and California Consumer Legal Remedies Act. Additionally, Johari has also represented pro bono parties before the U.S. Supreme Court.

While earning her J.D. from USC Gould School of Law, she served on the boards of the Public Interest Law Foundation and Black Law Students Association. Prior to joining DAE, Johari practiced with Sidley Austin LLP. She has returned to USC Gould School of Law as an adjunct professor of legal writing and advocacy.
